High-quality knife gate valves for shutting off viscous media

Knife gate valves are typically used to shut off viscous and less aggressive media with a high consistency. They are called knife gate valves because they cut through viscous media with large amounts of solids such as dense sewage sludge. High-quality knife gate valves are therefore used wherever butterfly valves reach their mechanical and physical limits. Knife gate valves were originally developed for the pulp industry. In the meantime, knife gate valves are used in many different applications such as paper production, waste water treatment or mining.

Knife gate valves are primarily designed for use as separating valves with open and close operation. Therefore, they are fully open or closed in the operating position. Full flow is thus ensured and the medium can flow through unhindered. They are not suitable for use as throttle or regulating valves.

When the knife gate valve is closed, the shut-off plate cuts through any obstructions of the viscous medium such as sewage sludge, slurry, liquids containing solids or bulk material. Because of their soft sealing surface, knife gate valves are only used in applications with relatively low pressure, as they are not designed for high pressures.

Depending on your requirements in your application, the right type of drive is available: Manually, pneumatically or electrically operated. The knife gate valve housing is made of GJS500 cast iron with epoxy coating. The shut-off plate is made of AISI 304 stainless steel as standard and the seals are made of EPDM. Knife gate valves are available from TRI-MATIC with manual or pneumatic double-acting actuators and in passage sizes from DN50 to DN300. Other designs and materials are available on request.

FAQs

What is a knife gate valve?

Knife gate valves are manually, pneumatically or electrically operated shut-off valves. They are called knife gate valves because they cut through viscous media with large amounts of solids, such as dense sewage sludge. When the knife gate valve closes, the shut-off plate cuts through any obstructions of the viscous medium such as sewage sludge, slurry, liquids containing solids or bulk solids.

Where are knife gate valves used?

Knife gate valves were originally developed for the pulp industry. Today, knife gate valves are used in many different applications such as paper production, waste water treatment and mining.
