Valve Islands
The modular EB80 valve terminal can simultaneously control up to 38 multi-pole valves or 128 valves with fieldbus. Using the signal modules, up to 40 separate EB80 valve terminals can be linked to form one large control unit.
Modular valve islands for common fieldbus protocols and IO-Link with high pneumatic functionality
Valve terminals are compact units that combine several pneumatic valves. They are a combination of several pneumatic valves with pneumatic connections and a common power supply on a base plate.
They enable centralised control and distribution of compressed air to control various pneumatic actuators such as cylinders, grippers or machine functions. Valve terminals can be individually configured and are ready for direct installation. This simplifies the installation, maintenance and control of the compressed air systems.
In simple terms, pneumatic valve terminals work as follows:
- Central control: A control unit sends electrical signals to the valve terminal.
- Valve actuation: The valve terminal contains several pneumatic valves that are activated or deactivated by the signals received.
- Compressed air distribution: Depending on the position of the valves, compressed air is channelled to or from the corresponding actuators such as cylinders or motors.
- Function fulfilment: The actuators carry out the desired movements or actions. For example, they move a piston or turn a motor.
Valve terminals are used in many different areas to control and automate pneumatic systems. These include, for example, the automotive industry, the packaging industry, commercial vehicle construction, the food and beverage industry, the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry and automation technology. Production processes can be made more efficient, reliable and cost-effective.
For companies that value high pneumatic functionality and electrical modularity, valve islands are just right. The optimised valve islands variants for control cabinet installation are particularly attractive, also with terminal strips for increased corrosion protection.
Valve terminals as a connection of several individual valves are core elements of pneumatic automation. By centralising the power and compressed air supply, a common electrical and pneumatic supply is created. The advantages of this are, for example:
- Space saving due to compact housing
- Simplified installation thanks to the reduction of hoses and cables as well as the centralised supply
- Easier maintenance thanks to centralised access
- Effective controllability through software configurations
- Cost efficiency through bundling of materials
The EB80 valve island
The EB80 valve island is modular and can be connected to all common fieldbus protocols or to IO-Link. It simultaneously controls up to 128 valves with fieldbus or 38 multi-pin valves. By means of the signal modules, up to 40 separate EB80 valve terminals are assembled into one large control unit.
Due to the minimum power consumption of the valve coils of 0.3W and the short pulse duration for safe switching, the holding power is significantly reduced compared to other valve batteries. This guarantees lower temperatures and saves energy.
The wide supply voltage range of 12-24V DC can offer a decisive advantage, especially in vehicle construction.
The compact EB80 valve islands have a high flow rate even with their small width of 14 mm. All valve functions from 2/2-way to 5/3-way are covered in the same valve size. The individual pneumatic valves are equipped with two captive M4 screws and are easily attached to the base plate. They can be quickly replaced or extended without having to dismantle the entire valve group.
As a new module, the EB80 valve terminal can be expanded with an electronically controlled, proportional pressure regulator, which is easily and flexibly installed in the valve terminal. Up to 16 regulators can be integrated within a valve island. Proportional pressure regulators are used when individual elements or branches in the compressed air supply need to be specifically controlled.
The fieldbus connection can be controlled directly via the valve terminal and is available for all common bus systems such as Profinet IO, Profibus DP, IO-Link 32 IN +32 OUT, IO-Link 64 OUT, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Powerlink and CC-Link. For the variant with multi-pole connection, we supply a separate M-12 connector for communication. Connection to IO-Link is possible with a corresponding control module. The proportional pressure regulators are available with or without display and membrane keypad and as manual or remote control only.
As standard, the EB80 valve terminals and the new proportional pressure regulators have IP65 protection. Thanks to an internal overpressure compensation system of each controller, we achieve this degree of protection without loss of accuracy.
