Jost Vetter in the TRI-interview
We would like to say thank you: in addition to their job at TRI-MATIC, some of our colleagues are committed to helping institutions or associations in their free time. We like to make this visible.
Today, we asked Jost Vetter, Project & Account Manager at TRI-MATIC and Lieutenant and Chief Fire Service Training Officer at the Escholzmatt-Marbach fire brigade and fire instructor at Buildings Insurance Lucerne, six questions. Read his story.
What do you do at TRI-MATIC and since when?
As Project & Account Manager, I have been looking after many customers in my area in north-west and central Switzerland since the beginning of March 2021. This allows me to get to know lots of interesting people and companies. That's what I really like about my work.
What do you like best about your work?
I plan my working day and my tasks myself. So every day is different and varied. When I come home in the evening after interesting appointments and contacts, I am happy and satisfied. For TRI-MATIC and me, the appointments bring new tasks and challenges. I am very happy to fulfil these different needs. It is important to me that the customer and supplier feel like winners.
You volunteer in your free time as a lieutenant in the fire brigade and an instructor at the building insurance company. Why do you do this?
Training in the local fire brigade begins with basic training and training in one or more departments. Assigned firefighters who show interest and aptitude are specifically approached by the fire brigade commission or command for further group leader training. A similar selection process then follows for training to become a lieutenant and officer.
Group leader and officer training is completed in two parts of the course. As a group leader, I lead people in operations and as an officer, I lead training courses in the local fire service. I find it enriching to pass on my own knowledge of the fire service.
Anyone interested in working as an instructor should register their interest with the fire service commander. He forwards a letter to the fire service inspectorate. Training to become an instructor takes two years and is divided into various selection procedures. As an instructor, I work for the building insurance company and train or further train fire brigade members in courses. Instructors also check the level of training of fire brigades with inspections and make recommendations for optimising activities.
It is important to know that the rank of captain in the role of instructor is independent of the respective rank within the local fire service. The two functions as a lieutenant in the Escholzmatt-Marbach fire brigade and as an instructor at the Lucerne building insurance company are separate.
What knowledge do you need for your work with the fire service and buildings insurance?
Although the two roles differ in terms of tasks and responsibilities, they complement each other perfectly in terms of professional expertise. I am open to new things and motivated to continuously expand my knowledge. It's important to me not only to learn new things myself, but also to pass on my knowledge to my colleagues. We can continue to develop as a team through professional dialogue, training and joint exercises.
How do you benefit from your work as a lieutenant and instructor in your job at TRI-MATIC?
In my various roles in my daily work and in the fire service, I attach great importance to an effective presentation - in line with the principle of ‘less is more’. At the beginning of visits to customers or training courses in the fire service, it is important to me to pick up on the individual interest, prior knowledge and expectations of each person and to create a personal approach. I am very open and enjoy getting to know new people. This enables me to respond to specific needs, build a sincere bridge to customers or course participants and create an atmosphere of trust.
What are your personal goals for the future?
I would like to expand my customer network in the future. It is important to me to establish contacts and develop sustainable partnerships. At the same time, I would like to continuously deepen my professional knowledge.
