Components for industrial food production

When producing and processing food, it is important to proceed carefully, in compliance with the law and in a responsible manner. Cleanliness and hygiene form the basis for ensuring that food is safe to eat.

Special requirements are placed on the equipment and materials that come into contact with the individual raw materials and finished products:

No unacceptable changes in smell, taste or nutrients.

Easy to clean to prevent the formation of germs.

Strict regulations apply to food processing. At various levels – whether Europe-wide or country-specific – regulations on hygiene, safety, labelling and traceability create uniform standards:

FDA stands for Food and Drug Administration. It is the US authority responsible for the safety and approval of food and medical products.

In the case of household appliances, «food safe» means that materials are suitable for contact with food. This is based on EU regulations on materials that come into contact with food (e.g. plastics, metals, coatings).

The framework regulations (EC) No. 1935/2004 on general requirements apply to all materials and articles that come into contact with food.

Hygienic design of components


In industrial food production, food safety and product quality play the most important roles in the entire process. The hygienic concept of the machines and systems and the hygienic design of the components are essential. Therefore, the components used must meet special requirements in terms of material, surface quality, connection technology and cleanability.

TRI-CLAMP ball valves, check valves, butterfly valves and pressure gauges meet the hygienic standards and guidelines for food production. These components are available in stainless steel, butterfly valves also with PFA coating and PTFE lining. TRI-CLAMP fittings are manufactured with a highly polished surface and can be supplied with a roughness certificate on request. Pressure gauges and pressure sensors with pressure transmitters are available with all industry-standard process connections. These include milk pipe fittings in accordance with DIN 11851 and TRI-CLAMP connections in accordance with DIN 32676, ISO 1127 or BS/OD for sterile applications.

The fittings and pressure gauges comply with standards such as FDA, SIL and sanitary standards. We will be happy to provide you with these certificates as proof of conformity upon request. For all fittings and parts made of stainless steel that come into contact with the medium, we will be happy to provide you with the material test certificate upon request. We can also provide you with FDA approvals for the sealing materials and any filling fluids used in pressure gauges.

Even FDA-certified pneumatic hoses are available for food applications. They are characterised by excellent chemical resistance, temperature tolerance, and odour and taste neutrality.
